I am a true believer in the power of a ballet flat, although I've yet to find THE perfect pair. Over the years I've tried at least two dozen different flat styles/brands, but they all seem to fail me after a short time. Here's a brief rundown on the highs and lows of my discarded flats:
Dexter elasticized flats from Payless were comfortable and the right price, but the leather-like exterior material began to crack, which made the shoes look dirty and cheap after time.
Gap fabric flats (from many seasons ago) fit beautifully in the store and were my everyday shoe for at least two weeks, until the funky fuzzy sole started to wear, which caused me to slip and slide everywhere I went.
Banana Republic leopard print flats (from fall 2012, which were purchased on vacation in New Orleans when my cheapie Target flats literally broke while we were out playing tourist) have been worn at least 5 out of 7 days each week for the past two months. Today I noticed a huge hole on the upper interior near the toe area, and have since found other issues with the rather expensive flats I splurged on.
In mid-February I was reading Wifessionals.com when I spotted a post she had recently written on Cara boxes. Intrigued, I read more and found out that they are a monthly box swap program, with a new theme each month, that pairs bloggers with fellow bloggers to receive goodies. The theme for February was #ClubSexy -- in honor of Valentine's Day -- and I decided to sign up! Kaitlyn at Wifessionals.com paired me with Myrna from UndecidedMamas.com and I learned that she was planning to spend V-Day with her hubby and three kids watching movies. Inspired, I went to Target and purchased her Valentine's Day (the movie), a box of conversation hearts, Flipz chocolate covered pretzels, caramel filled Hershey's Kisses, and a cute polka dot enamel bangle. I also threw in a mini Zoya nail polish that I had purchased at a beauty retailer, because Myrna's Instagram account revealed that she loved nail art. My Cara Box sender was Jessica Rider from JessicaRider.com. I shared with the East Rochester dwelling media maven that I was most likely going to be working on V-Day, but that hubby and I were planning to go out to for a romantic dinner the following evening. With information in hand, she collected the following items for me to enjoy while "getting sexy" for my date night:
Crabtree & Evelyn gift set
Spiced apricot tea to sip as I soak
Knee high socks from Target to keep my tootsies warm after I get out of a steamy tub
Bath & Body Works body lotion
Rimmel pale pink nail polish
Wegmans Peanut butter to nosh on as I'm applying my make-up and curling my hair
Pink candy coated chocolate gems (generic M&Ms)
Stationery set to write hubby a love letter
Two adorable Wegmans (BEST grocery store ever) re-usable grocery bags
I had so much fun digging into my Cara Box and suggest you give it a whirl one of these months!
